2016 Bloomfield Hills

In support of the AICAD Post-Graduate Teaching Fellowship Program and with the assistance of Trisha Holt, I conceived of, organized and hosted the first of an on-going symposium for the Fellows at Cranbrook Academy of Art.  The AICAD Teaching Fellowship provides teaching opportunities to high-achieving alumni from AICAD member schools, with the aim to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of faculty at these institutions and others.

The Symposium at Cranbrook offered professional development workshops, skill-sharing sessions and conversations to cultivate equity and diversity in the teaching of art and design. AICAD Fellows were joined by educators, social justice workers, artists and designers as a way to bring multiple perspectives together. Public programs were also held to engage the students and faculty of Cranbrook and neighboring schools.  This inaugural symposium continues as on on-going series at Cranbrook.

Participants included, Sampada Aranke, Rashayla Marie Brown, Liz Cohen, Andres Hernandez, Rachel Schreiber, Jesse Villalobos, David Ayala-Alfonso, Franciso Alonso, Tia Blassingam, Shiraz Gallab, Carolyn Jean Martin, Helina Metaferia, Malcolm Rio, Sheida Soleimani, Kelly Walters, and others.
